Why Blogs?

For those of us who are trying to keep up with all of the "latest" technological advancements, it seems like a never ending battle to learn about the new technologies, and make a decision as to whether it could possibly be useful in our individual classrooms.

I will be teaching two workshops this summer, 1) Creating a Blog, 2) Creating Podcasts. Creating the blog is obviously the first step in this process, because the blog is the mechanism that is used to display information to your students. Information for your students that also contains hyper links to other web sites, other blogs, audio podcasts, and video resources. The next logical step for a teacher mastering these new technologies is to become proficient in creating, editing and publishing audio files that can be played over the Internet (Podcasts).

When a teacher becomes proficient in using these new technologies they can use the blog as a potent tool in communicating with your students, parents, as well as collaborate with other teachers with similar interests, who may be in the same school system, or possibly located anywhere in the world.

It is the goal of these workshops to expose teachers who might be classroom centric to become aware of how easy it is to expand ones horizons, and learn the advantages of including technology in your classroom.
